Aveline is built from woven rattan panels set at shifting angles, so the shade reads as a piece of sculpture before it reads as a light fixture. The weave is open enough to let light escape in a soft pattern rather than as a single bright disc, which makes it a comfortable fixture to sit under at a dining table or to hang low beside a bed. Three diameters are made, from 23.6 inches up to 39.4 inches, so the same design can act as a quiet accent or as the main event over a long table.
Light comes from an LED source at a warm 3000K, a tone that keeps the rattan looking honey colored rather than washed out. Rattan is a natural material, so each shade carries small variations in tone and grain; that is the point of it rather than a defect. The frame hangs from a cable that adjusts up to 59 inches, which covers standard ceilings and leaves room for the taller ceilings and stairwells where a sculptural shade of this size earns its keep.
Installation is a ceiling mount and the fixture runs on 120V, 60Hz household power.
