No cord, no outlet, no argument about where it goes. The Mafra is a mushroom lamp in the 1960s idiom, a domed metal cap over a stem and a round foot, running on an internal battery charged over USB. That frees it from the wall, so it can sit in the middle of a dining table, on a windowsill, on a bookshelf or on a patio table for an evening.

Its light is a built in warm LED drawing 5 watts, an ambient level rather than a reading level. This is a lamp for atmosphere: a glow on a shelf, a soft point beside a bed, a second source in a room lit mainly from overhead. The body is metal in black, gold or silver, and the whole thing weighs one pound, which is what makes carrying it between rooms realistic rather than theoretical.

It measures 8.7 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide, so it fits where a corded lamp would be awkward. Charging runs over the supplied USB cable at 5V, and because the LED is built in there is no bulb to buy and none to change. The box holds the lamp, the USB cable and a user manual.
