Giostra is a half dome that sits close against the wall and pushes its light up and down the surface rather than out into the room. That makes it a corridor and stairwell fixture first. It marks the wall without glaring at anyone walking past, and it leaves the bedside table and the console free.

What separates it from most sconces is the finish range. Six of them: white and black for a scheme that wants the fixture to disappear, and green, red, yellow and orange for one that wants it to be the object in the hallway. The body is metal with a PVC diffuser, 9.8 inches across and projecting 5.9 inches from the wall, which is shallow enough for a narrow passage and for a wall somebody has to walk past every day.

Light comes from a G9 LED capsule supplied with the fixture, chosen at purchase in warm white for living spaces or cool white where a cleaner tone is wanted. Maximum draw is 40 watts, and because the capsule is a standard G9 it can be replaced years from now without replacing the fixture. The sconce hardwires to a wall box rather than plugging in, so the cable stays hidden and the wall stays clean, and the connection should be made by an electrician.

Six finishes, not two

White and black let the sconce disappear into the scheme. Green, red, yellow and orange make it the object on the wall, which is a choice most sconce ranges never offer.

A yellow wall sconce and a dark green one lit on a deep blue grey wall, each washing light up and down the wall above and below its glass globe.
A black half round wall sconce lit above a small side table holding a teacup and a glass vase of monstera leaves, next to a patterned armchair.

Flat enough for a hallway

It projects 5.9 inches, so nobody walks into it.

Warm white for living rooms, cool white for work.

Yes. The light source is a standard G9 bi-pin LED capsule, supplied with the fixture and replaceable from any lighting shop. Maximum draw is 40 watts.
It hardwires to a wall box, so no cable shows. There is no plug and no switch on the fixture, and the connection should be made by an electrician.
Up and down the wall rather than out into the room. The half dome shields the globe from anyone walking past, which is why it suits corridors, stairwells and bedsides.

Sconces are the easiest fixture to hang badly. Height is set by what they sit next to, not by the wall.

  • General wall heightCentre of the fixture 60 to 66 inches from the finished floor.
  • Beside a bedCentre 30 to 36 inches above the top of the mattress, so the light falls on the page and not in your eyes.
  • Flanking a mirrorMount as a pair, 28 to 40 inches apart, centred at about eye level.
  • Above a mirror insteadCentre 75 to 80 inches from the floor, roughly 3 to 8 inches above the mirror top.
  • Along a hallwayEvery 8 to 10 feet, and measure the projection against the walkway before mounting in a narrow corridor.
  • At a vanityA pair either side lights a face evenly. A single fixture overhead casts shadows downward.

Starting points, not rules. Check them against the measurements listed for this piece and against your own wall before you drill.

From Our Customers

What Elbrune shoppers have to say.

Exactly What the Kitchen Needed

Was a little unsure about the size at first, but it ended up looking perfect over our table. The warm light makes the kitchen feel so much cozier. Really happy with it.

Took a Little Longer, but I Love It

Shipping took a few days longer than expected, but everything arrived safely. The lamp looks really nice on our nightstand and customer service was helpful when I asked for an update.

Glad I Went for It

I hadn’t ordered from Elbrune before so I was a little nervous. Everything arrived well packed though and the light looks even nicer in person :)

Looks So Nice Over the Table

The color is a little warmer in person than I expected, but I actually like it better that way. Looks great over our dining table.

Made Our Patio Look So Much Better

We put these by the back door and I’m really happy with them. They give off plenty of light and made the patio feel a lot nicer at night.

Took a While, but Worth It

Delivery took around 10 days, but other than that no complaints. The lamp looks great in our living room and feels really solid.

Light where you use it

Wall light works close up, softening a room instead of flooding it.

Beside a bed, above a mirror

The places a room needs light most are rarely the middle of the ceiling.

Up, down or both

Which way a sconce throws its light changes the whole wall.
