Glass carries color differently from a painted shade. Light passing through a tinted glass body picks up the tone on its way out, so a Guarda in orange sends a warmer cast into the room than the same lamp in white, and the body itself glows instead of staying opaque. Four tints are offered, white, pink, orange and yellow, in the muted register the Morandi palette is named for.

The second decision is the base. A slim base is the narrower and more upright of the two, a flat polished chrome disc, while a wide base is a thicker chrome drum that gives the lamp a squatter, more grounded stance. Both carry the same 7.1 inch by 11 inch body, so the choice changes the profile rather than the size. White and Orange are made in both bases; Pink and Yellow are slim base only.

Construction is glass over an iron frame, and the lamp takes one E26 medium base bulb, not supplied, so brightness is set by whatever you fit. It plugs into a standard outlet and is rated for dry indoor locations only. Light assembly is required. Wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth; the fixture carries CE and UL certification. A mini lamp of this size reads best as a pair, one at each side of a bed, or as a single point on a sideboard.

Light passes through the tinted glass instead of bouncing off an opaque shade, so the lamp itself glows and the cast it throws shifts with the tint.

White and Orange are made in both the slim and the wide base. Pink and Yellow are slim base only. The glass body and the 7.1 by 11 inch size are the same throughout.
One E26 medium base bulb, not supplied, so brightness is set by whatever you fit.
It is a mini lamp, best read as a pair either side of a bed or as a single point on a sideboard rather than as a room light.

A table lamp is sized to the surface it stands on and to the person sitting beside it.

  • Beside a bedThe bottom of the shade should sit roughly level with your shoulder when you are sitting up in bed.
  • Beside a reading chairBottom of the shade at eye level when seated, usually around 42 inches from the floor.
  • On a console or sideboardTotal lamp height no more than about one and a half times the depth of the surface.
  • Picking a sizeThe shade should be a little wider than the base and no wider than the table it stands on.
