The glass cylinder grades from deep smoke at the top to clear at the base, an ombre worked into the glass rather than sprayed onto it, so it will not wear off the way a coating does. It hangs inside an open square cage of thin matte black steel bars, 7.9 inches wide and about 12.6 inches tall, open on all four sides rather than glazed like a lantern. That gives a kitchen island the vertical punctuation a run of recessed downlights cannot, and the cage is matte rather than gloss, so it does not pick up kitchen glare.

Drop is where this one earns its place. The cable adjusts anywhere between 15.7 and 53.1 inches, covering a bar counter at close range and a stairwell at full extension, and the ceiling plate measures only 3.9 inches across, so three in a row do not crowd the ceiling. The whole assembly weighs 2.6 pounds, light enough for a standard ceiling box. Each order is a single pendant; the photographs of three over an island are the same fixture installed in a row.

A dimmable 2700K warm white LED bulb ships in the box, so the fixture works the moment it is wired in and dims properly on a compatible wall dimmer. Installation is hardwired to a ceiling junction box concealed behind the plate. It is rated IP20 for dry rooms and carries a one year warranty.

Allow 28 to 35 inches from the worktop to the bottom of the glass, and 12 to 16 inches between cages. Three pendants suit an island of 63 to 79 inches, four up to 102, five up to 118, and six beyond that.

Pendants live or die on drop height. Too high and the light scatters, too low and it blocks the sightline across the room.
