Guadix is built from hand cut natural stone: a cylindrical column, a gold finish metal sphere at the joint, and a broad dome above it. Four stones are offered, white alabaster, black marble, beige travertine and green marble, and the choice changes how the lamp behaves as much as how it looks.

Stone is not an obvious shade material, and it works here because the sections are cut thin enough to pass light. The paler stones transmit a warm glow through the body of the form, while the marbles hold more of it and push the output up and down instead, so the same lamp reads soft in alabaster and graphic in black marble. Veining and tone are drawn from the block, which means no two pieces match.

At 11.8 inches across and 17.7 inches tall it is scaled for a bedside table, a console or a living room side table, where the weight of the material can be felt at close range. Pair it with a surface 22 to 25 inches high so the top of the lamp lands around eye level when seated, and leave at least 16 inches of clear tabletop around the base. The lamp is plug in on a US cord. Natural stone chips if it is knocked against a hard edge, so lift it by the body rather than by the metal fitting.

No. The finish name describes the stone column. The dome reads pale on all four finishes, which is what keeps the light released evenly above and below the metal sphere.
Allow about 16 inches of clear tabletop around the base, and pair it with a surface 22 to 25 inches high so the top of the lamp lands near eye level when you are seated.
Use a soft dry cloth and avoid acidic cleaners, which etch stone. Lift the lamp by the body rather than by the metal fitting, because natural stone chips against a hard edge.

A table lamp is sized to the surface it stands on and to the person sitting beside it.

  • Beside a bedThe bottom of the shade should sit roughly level with your shoulder when you are sitting up in bed.
