Isolde is not a lamp that happens to warm a candle. It is a candle warmer that happens to look like a lamp. Two halogen bulbs inside the shade throw heat downward onto a jar candle standing beneath it, melting the wax from the surface so the fragrance releases without a flame. Nothing burns, so there is no smoke, no soot and no blackened wick, and a candle lasts considerably longer than it would lit.

Brightness is set by a rotary knob sitting in line on the power cord, and because the heat follows the brightness, turning it down slows the melt and turning it up speeds it. That is the control a warmer actually needs. The shade is glass, offered brown or clear, above a base in either wood or marble, and both bulbs are supplied so nothing has to be sourced before the first use. The lamp stands 11.8 inches tall on a 5.9 inch square base, and with no candle underneath it reads as an ordinary glass table lamp, which is why it can stay out all year rather than being packed away.

Treat it as a heat appliance rather than as decoration. The shade and the melted wax get genuinely hot, so give it a stable heat resistant surface, keep it out of reach of children and pets, and let the wax cool before moving the jar. It runs on standard household power, is rated for dry indoor locations, needs light assembly, and works with jar candles and wax melt burners alike.

Fragrance without a flame

No. It works with ordinary jar candles and with wax melt burners. The heat comes from above, so the wick is never lit and the wax melts from the surface down.
A rotary knob sits in line on the power cord. Turning it changes the brightness of the two GU10 halogen bulbs, and because those bulbs are also the heat source, turning it down slows the melt.
Hot enough to melt candle wax, so treat it as a heat appliance. Stand it on a stable heat resistant surface, keep it out of reach of children and pets, and let the wax cool before you move the jar.

A table lamp is sized to the surface it stands on and to the person sitting beside it.

  • Beside a bedThe bottom of the shade should sit roughly level with your shoulder when you are sitting up in bed.
  • Beside a reading chairBottom of the shade at eye level when seated, usually around 42 inches from the floor.
  • On a console or sideboardTotal lamp height no more than about one and a half times the depth of the surface.
  • Picking a sizeThe shade should be a little wider than the base and no wider than the table it stands on.
