Linen and polyester woven together, finished with a cream border and a knotted tassel fringe at each end. The blend is the practical part of it: linen supplies the slubbed, slightly uneven surface that reads as a natural fiber rather than a print, and the polyester keeps the runner from creasing hard and makes it water resistant, so a spill beads for a moment before it soaks.

That combination is what lets a linen look survive a table in daily use with children, wine and hot dishes on it. Four woven designs are offered, each a pattern worked into the cloth rather than printed on top, so the figure holds its definition through washing. Three lengths of the same 13.8 inch cloth run 47, 63 and 71 inches, cut to standard table sizes.

Run it down a dining table, across a sideboard, or use a short one as a pair of long placemats. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low or hang. Skip fabric softener, which coats the fibers and reduces the water resistance over repeated washes. A warm iron on the reverse settles fold lines from storage without flattening the weave. Store it rolled rather than folded, which avoids setting a permanent crease down the center.
