Silence is the specification that decides this one. A sweep movement drives the hands continuously instead of stepping once a second, so there is no tick at all, and that is the difference between a clock you can hang in a bedroom and one you take back down after two nights.

Two woods are used rather than one. A frame in one timber runs around a face in the other, and the contrast between pale open grain and dark close grain is what gives the dial depth: the face reads as its own disc rather than as a single turned piece with hands stuck to it. Four dial layouts are offered on the same two wood construction. Two carry applied numerals and two use plain baton markers, and each of those comes with either the dark walnut or the pale zelkova as the face, so the pairing flips between frame and dial.

Twelve inches across is a standard wall clock rather than an oversized one, sized for the wall above a desk, the space beside a doorway, or a plain stretch where something larger would crowd. It runs on a single AA battery, which is not supplied. The markers are cut with enough contrast to read across a room without printing a busy dial over the grain. Wipe the wood with a barely damp cloth and dry it at once, since standing moisture will lift a wood finish over time.
