A single arch drawn across a natural cotton linen ground, or a zigzag in the same restrained register. The Ostuni is a graphic rug rather than a novelty one: the motif is spaced generously, the ground is left visible, and nothing about it is loud enough to date within a season.

The proportions are what make it useful. At 23.6 by 59 inches it behaves as a runner rather than a rug, which fills placements a standard rectangle cannot: a narrow hallway, the length of a bedside, or the floor of a child's room that needs a pattern without committing to a theme that gets outgrown. The motif itself is a raised tufted pile worked onto a thin flat woven cotton linen ground, with knotted fringe at both ends, so the pattern is felt underfoot as well as seen.

Two motifs are offered on the same cream ground, an arch and a zigzag, so the piece can either sit quietly against an existing floor or lead the palette of the room. It is light enough to lift and shake out, and it washes in a domestic machine, which is the point for a textile that will spend its life on the busiest strip of floor in the house. One size is offered, so measure the run before ordering.
