Two stacked drums, both ribbed from top to bottom, give Tambour a profile closer to a piece of turned pottery than to a light fitting. It is deliberately small, 9 inches across and just over 6 inches deep, which puts it in the awkward spots a full size flush mount swamps: a hall ceiling, a landing, the head of a stairwell, a compact kitchen. Four finishes run from plain white and soft beige to a sage green and a deep red.

The body is molded resin, which is why the fluting stays crisp and consistent all the way round and why the fixture is light for its diameter. The underside is left open rather than diffused, so light falls straight down in a defined pool while the ribbed sides pick up a warm edge of it. That suits a stair tread or a worktop better than a flat wash across a ceiling. Bulb choice stays with you: the socket takes a standard E26 (medium base) screw fitting, and no bulb is supplied with the fixture.

Semi flush means the drum hangs a short way below the ceiling instead of pressing against it, so it reads as an object without stealing headroom. It is hardwired at a ceiling junction box and assembles from the supplied parts, so cut the circuit at the breaker first and call an electrician if wiring at the box is unfamiliar. The rating is dry locations only, which rules out a shower room or an unprotected porch.

Closer to turned pottery than a fitting

Two stacked drums, both ribbed from top to bottom. The molding keeps the fluting crisp and consistent the whole way round, which is what gives a 9 inch fixture the presence of an object rather than a fitting.

Small on purpose

9 inches across, for ceilings a full size fitting swamps.

Light falls straight down

The open underside pools it rather than washing the ceiling.

No. The body is molded resin and the source states nothing else, so we do not call it ceramic, plaster or stone. Resin is also why the fluting stays crisp all the way round and why the fixture is light for its diameter.
No. It takes one E26 medium base bulb, the standard US screw fitting. The underside is open rather than diffused, so the lamp you fit is visible from below.
The places a full size flush mount swamps: a hall ceiling, a landing, the head of a stairwell, a compact kitchen. It is 9.06 inches across and 6.30 deep, hardwires to a ceiling box, and assembly is required.

Flush and semi-flush fixtures exist for ceilings that cannot give up the height. Choosing between them is mostly a clearance question.

  • Ceilings under 8 feetChoose flush. A semi-flush will feel low.
  • Ceilings 8 to 10 feetSemi-flush works and adds some depth to the room.
  • Minimum clearanceAt least 7 feet from the floor to the lowest point of the fixture.
  • PlacementCentre it in the room, or centre it over the walkway in a hallway rather than on the room's midpoint.
  • Hallways and landingsOne fixture roughly every 8 to 10 feet keeps the light even.

Starting points, not rules. Check them against the measurements listed for this piece and against your own ceiling height before you drill.

From Our Customers

What Elbrune shoppers have to say.

Exactly What the Kitchen Needed

Was a little unsure about the size at first, but it ended up looking perfect over our table. The warm light makes the kitchen feel so much cozier. Really happy with it.

Took a Little Longer, but I Love It

Shipping took a few days longer than expected, but everything arrived safely. The lamp looks really nice on our nightstand and customer service was helpful when I asked for an update.

Glad I Went for It

I hadn’t ordered from Elbrune before so I was a little nervous. Everything arrived well packed though and the light looks even nicer in person :)

Looks So Nice Over the Table

The color is a little warmer in person than I expected, but I actually like it better that way. Looks great over our dining table.

Made Our Patio Look So Much Better

We put these by the back door and I’m really happy with them. They give off plenty of light and made the patio feel a lot nicer at night.

Took a While, but Worth It

Delivery took around 10 days, but other than that no complaints. The lamp looks great in our living room and feels really solid.

Light sets the room

Ceiling light is the first thing a room reads and the last thing most people change.

Hung at the right height

Every drop, rod and cord length is listed, so it lands where you want it.

Warm, not clinical

Chosen for the quality of the light as much as the shape of the fixture.
