Small enough to work where a full chandelier would crowd the room, this fixture sets a crystal shade on a short metal stem and holds it close to the ceiling. At 8.7 inches across and 7.9 inches deep it suits a hallway, a compact bedroom, a kitchen corner or a reading area inside a larger living room, and the supplier rates it for spaces of roughly 110 to 160 square feet.
The crystal sits in an iron frame in black, gold or silver, and the crystal is what does the work: a single bulb behind it breaks into points of light on the ceiling and the surrounding wall instead of a flat wash. One E26 medium base bulb up to 48W drives it. No bulb is supplied, which also means dimming depends entirely on the bulb chosen, so a dimmable lamp bought alongside turns the fixture into a dimmable one.
It weighs 6.6 pounds, arrives assembled and is rated IP20 for dry indoor use, with CE and UL marks. Fixing is to a ceiling box and the fixture should be wired in by a qualified electrician. Because it sits close to the ceiling rather than on a long drop, it clears a standard eight foot ceiling without the headroom problem a pendant brings.

Flush and semi-flush fixtures exist for ceilings that cannot give up the height. Choosing between them is mostly a clearance question.
